I was asked to create three 30-second TV spots for a Florida-based company specializing in home and office repair. My client was very open to doing something out of the ordinary so I set out to do just that. Restoration Specialists is an established company serving North Central Florida since 1972, with 6 offices and a service area covering 19 counties. Since RS was already well established, I felt there was an opportunity to have a little fun with this topic. I mean lets face it, if your home has been damaged, it's not exactly a happy moment for you. Do you really need to be reminded of how horrible the experience can be? Adding some levity to the subject seemed appropriate and would also help separate RS from the pack. In many cases I feel a successful ad does not attempt to educate it's viewers, more importantly it should get noticed and create a buzz. With all three commercial spots, the audience never actually discovers how the damage was created. I thought it would be more fun to have the audience experience the husband's childlike visions instead. When you have 15 to 30 seconds to convey your message, it should be memorable and dare I say, entertaining.
